Organisation of the 21st World Mining Congress

At the World Mining Congress International Organising Committee meeting in November last year in Tehran, it was decided that Poland would be given the right to organise and hold the 21st World Mining Congress & Expo in September 2008.

The World Mining Congress & Expo is the biggest conference for mining managers, practitioners and scientists. The 20th Congress in Tehran was attended by more than 1,500 participants from 34 countries.

Granting Poland the right to organise the Congress is simultaneously a great honour, a recognition of Polish mining research and technologies and a great challenge. The choice of Poland as the organiser of the next Congress was greeted with respect and applause by most attendants of the 20th Congress in Tehran. We need to believe that we can meet this challenge, and we should utilise the coming years to promote Poland and the achievements of its mining industry.

Mr Piotr BUCHWALD, Chairman of the World Mining Congress Polish Organising Committee, has allocated the task of organising the 21st World Mining Congress, Kraków-Katowice 2008 to Mr Jerzy KICKI, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for AGH.
